EVALUATION

Understanding Key Questions: Front Cover
1. Q1 I used professional products such as vibe magazine
in order to know how base my own the front cover of my magazine as they both specify within the same genre. In order to make sure my front cover design was portrayed the genre which was pop I had to research pop artist and to see know how they project in images ect . I also had evaluate the particular characteristics that a front cover has such as barcodes and issue numbers in order to portray the reality of the cover . I also had to think of conventions and unique selling points in order to entice my audience. As well as using effects to make images stand out such as a swirl effect.

2. Q2 There are related issues concerning age, ethnicity, class and gender that are part of media representation so I had to make sure there are images which are suitable for my target audience. For example, in a children’s magazine you would not expect the to have images such shown which are shown in a Nuts of FHM magazine as it is not suitable
.

3. Q3 Music magazines are often sold in supermarkets, corner shops ect. They often show information on music venues and Festivals it also depends on the location that is sold,
the location you are in depends what type of magazines are sold. The sub genre of the magazine may effect where it might be purchased because for example, if it was a poor area you wouldn’t expect them to be distributing magazines such as Rolling Stones as It Is a well known highly classed. Magazines are sold in order to make sales and to break news of the industry and gossip to make the readers feel like they know the public figures/celebrities.

4. Q4 The target audience are address in vibe magazine covers by the image which is displayed on the front cover. It is tailored to an extent to only to attract the target audience for example, The Wiz Khalifa Rollingstones magazine cover is targeted at young ladies. The image is of wiz khalifa winking which gives the audience the impression that he is having fun ect.

5. Q5 In the wiz khalifa rollingstones magazine cover the master head title of the magazine is covered by the image which gives the audience the impression that the magazine is well known just by looking at abit of it you know which magazine it is. Also the image is in a white background which makes the image stand out more while the headlines overlay the image to show the dominance.

6. Q6 Using Adobe Photoshop in my project was very successful as I was able to use various effects and photo editing skills to make my front cover image very successful and reach a high quality. While using Adobe InDesign I was able to structure the text and the organisation of my front cover which enhanced the design and format.

Q7 I think I could improve on my text structuring in order to make my front cover reach its peak in quality. As well as photo editing skills in order to make my photo seem as they was taken with a professional camera.

1. Q1 I used professional products such as drummer magazine in order to know how base my own contents page as they both specify within the same genre. In order to make sure my contents page will be done correctly I had to research other exiting magazines contents page. I also had evaluated the particular characteristics that a Contents Page has such as columns portraying the reality of the cover.

2. Q2 There are related issues concerning age, ethnicity, class and gender that are part of media representation so I had to make sure my contents age had suitable images which are suitable for my target audience. For example.

one of the main features that stand out in this main image is the hand across him with the red heart; this is significant as it can relate to the readers as she is trying to win over Kanye West's heart this content page is also trying to win over the reader’s heart and interest the reader and encourage them to buy it.


5. Q5 In the Kanye west contents page the colour red contrasts with the other colours such as black, grey and blue theses colours are very dull and suggests unhappiness, depression and misery whereas the colour red suggests passion, love and danger. Kanye’s facial expression relate to the dull colours consistently used as he looks expressionless. Kanye clothes also adhere with the colours used in the background as he is wearing a greyish jacket and t-shirt this looks very stylish and will attract many young people who are the target market for this magazine as fashion is growing more popular amongst the youths therefore pay more attention to trends and are encourage to buy this magazine as it not only offers them music but fashion as well.

6. Q6 Using Adobe Photoshop in my project was very successful as I was able to use various effects and photo editing skills to make my front cover image very successful and reach a high quality. While using Adobe InDesign I was able to structure the text and the organisation of my front cover which enhanced the design and format.

Understanding Key Questions: Double Page Spread

1. Q1 I used professional products such as Now magazine in order to know how base my own double page spread. In order to make sure my double page spread will be done correctly I had to research other exiting magazines. I also had evaluated the particular characteristics that a double page has such large high quality images.

2. Q2 There are related issues concerning age, ethnicity, class and gender that are part of media representation so I had to make sure my double page spread had suitable images and was equal in class for my target audience. For example.
3. Q3 Music magazines are often sold in supermarkets, corner shops ect. They often show information on music venues and Festivals it also depends on the location that is sold, the location you are in depends what type of magazines are sold. The sub genre of the magazine may effect where it might be purchased because for example, if it was a poor area you wouldn’t expect them to be distributing magazines such as Rolling Stones as It Is a well known highly classed. one of the main features that stand out is the text is because it is white and has a black surround which makes it stands out this portrays the head line which is stating that ‘lily allen’ wants attention so the designers use this with the design to make it stand out.

5. Q5 In the Lily Allen double page spread the colours contrast with the image within the double page spread in order to make everthing stand out a come across eyecacthing.

MUSIC MAGAZINE FINAL DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

MUSIC MAGAZINE FINAL DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD: Genre; Pop

CREATING THE BACKGROUND (Adobe Photoshop)

• I created a new layer and then a circular shape which I fill was filled in blue and then blurred by using Gaussian Blur (Directions: Filter – Blur – Gaussian Blur). I Then Create many layers doing the same process but with different colours.

• Once this is done I use the paint brush tool and change the settings to scattering so I am able to create a path of dots. I also create dots which are a smaller size and then change the projection to soft light.

PHOTO EDITING (adobe Photoshop)



• I take the photo’s I have taken for the double page spread and then I transform the scale of the image’s to fit a presentable size. I then sharpen the images and diffuse glow in order to make the picture quality clearer.
• After I extract the bodies in the pictures from the background in order to make the pictures look more professional. I also change there positions and change two of the images blend mode to make it more transparent and blend with the background.



TEXT ON INDESIGN

• I then export the project to Adobe InDesign but to a 2 paged document, where I add the title the heading using Magneto text for the ‘Jessie J’ Title different colours for different parts of the text.

• I then created the main body text using ORC A STD font.
• I then change the colour of some of the text in order to make the important information stand out the headings to make them stand out.

• I take the photo I have taken for the front cover and transform the scale of the image to fit a presentable size. I then sharpen the image.


• After I extract the body of the picture from the background, I then change the colour scheme of the picture to greyscale and a lens flare effect before importing it on to the background I had made.

• I do the same with the second photo taken but this time after I sharpen the image (Directions: Filter- Sharpen- Sharpen) I change the blend mode opacity to 31% in order to blend in with the background.

TEXT ON INDESIGN

• I then export the project to Adobe InDesign where I add the title the heading using Verdana text different colours for different sectors of the magazine in order to create a co-ordinated structured magazine as well as the title Contents page.

• I then added a black stroke to the headings to make them stand out.

EXTRA ADD ONS

• Once that was done I used the paintbrush to scatter dots around the grey scaled image in order to enhance the effect of the page.

• After I add a headlines showing use of the colour by highlight the main attracts, executed with a black stroke. Then moving on to main head line using Staple font it order to give the impression it was stamped.

EXTRA ADD ONS

• Once that was done I then imported an image of a barcode above it adding the price of the magazine. As well as adding the issue number and date of the magazine directly below the title.


• Lastly using adobe photo shop pen tool to create swirl around the image then by using the paint brush tool to cover the path made with various colours. This made the design look more creative.

MUSIC MAGAZINE DRAFT DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD

• I firstly start of by using Adobe Photoshop in order to edit the photo I had taken.

• Then I create an A4 sheet on Photoshop and open up the picture I had taken and used transform scale (Directions: Edit – Transform- Scale) in order to make the picture take up the whole page before using sharpen to make the image look sharper (Directions: Filter- Sharpen- Sharpen More).

• Once that was done I then used the rubber tool in order to take out the background and make the picture look as if it was shot in a professional studio.

• After I exported the a4 image into Adobe InDesign and created a double page spread then added the title text by using Nasalization font.

• I then added the body text which I used the text font Impact.

• I again had to format the text in order to make it look like an original magazine double page spread, paragraphs ect.

• I firstly start of by using Adobe Photoshop in order to edit the photo I had taken.

• Once that was done I then applied a patterned gradient in order to make the magazine look more attractive and chose a black colour using the colour checker.

• After I exported the a4 image into Adobe InDesign I Then created the title text by using Pump Demi Bold LET font, then by also adding a white stroke effect in order to make the text stand also by changing the text colour by using the colour tool, and the other headings had a pink screen stroke.

• I again had to format the text in order to make it look like an original magazine contents page, I decided to use a simple format as if it where bullet points.
